After you spend some time in the sandy desert of the Veiled Sea and add some much-needed moisture, you’ll move on to the Lost Grotto.
This is a gorgeous area with lots of hidden alcoves, dolphin paraphernalia, and opportunities to catch some sick air and land some lush combos.
But landing tricks is easy. Finding the hidden shells in this area, however. Now, that’s a real test. But, with the aid of this guide, you’ll be able to blitz through this portion of the collection and move on to the next batch in the Shadow Tundra.
Please be aware that the developer (Giant Squid) informed us after we had completed these collectible guides that they had plans to relocate these assets in their final update. However, we were given no warning of this via pre-release documentation. We are working under the assumption that the vast majority of shells will still be located as listed below. However, these guides may be slightly inaccurate through no fault of our own. We will endeavor to amend them if needed when a day-one patch becomes available.
Shell #1
When you reach the first puzzle area, you must solve two bubble puzzles. You’ll see a small gap in the building directly below the higher bubble puzzle mouth. Drop down and slot into the little gap, and you’ll find a shell inside.
Shell #2
This is a particularly sneaky one. When you reach the area where the mysterious figure stands on the other side of a gap with stairs to your left, jump right into that chasm. At the bottom, you’ll find a secret area with a shell and a pipe to allow you to zip back up top again.
Shell #3
You’ll soon find yourself traveling through a rather dense Grotto area, where you’ll also find a Stele Message telling you more about the Lost Grotto.
Here, you’ll want to look for a walkway down below the rooftops you’ll be platforming across. Drop down, land on said walkway, and you’ll see a shell sitting nearby.
Shell #4
Next, in the area where you need to activate four fountains to open a doorway, and also where you can access the trick attack area.
Platform across rooftops and towers until you spot an area down low with a secret alcove. It’s easy to spot thanks to the low floating jellyfish. There, you will find your second shell.
Shell #5
You won’t spot another shell until you reach the top of the Grotto. When you reach the top, you’ll see a huge dolphin statue in the same area where you get the chain working again. Simply head behind the statue and climb to the top of the dolphin’s head, where you’ll find another shell.
Shell #6
You’ll find quite a few shells on the way back to the exit door, and the seaweed and chain will make this much less of a burden.
The first one you’ll likely find is the one located on the long waterway you’ll be able to spot from where you activated the chain. Head to the very end of this walkway and then look down. You should see a little awning below, and atop that is another shell.
Shell #7
You’ll want to keep hearing back along the chain until you get to a building that has a square opening at the top. Take some time to examine all the little nooks on this rooftop, as in a little archway, you’ll find another sneaky shell.
Shell #8
Next, just as you’re about to reach the bubble puzzle area again, you’ll want to hop off your chain and head to the left, where you’ll find a trail of seaweed that will take you up a cliff. Follow this path, and tucked away, you’ll find your next shell.
Shell #9
Not too far up ahead, you’ll come to the wall riding area at the very start of this chapter. But you can now access a sandy path up above, thanks to seaweed. Follow it along, and you’ll find a cave with yet another shell.
Shell #10
Just on the other side of the smaller wall ride within the puzzle area. The one that allowed you to access the higher bubble puzzle mouth, just for clarity. You’ll find a small hidden archway, with a shell tucked away for safekeeping. It’s quite close to the NPC that collects your cash, if that helps you place it.
Shell #11
Then lastly, for the Lost Grotto, we have another sneaky shell. This one is right next to the exit doorway, so head towards it as if you’re about to finish the level. But then head right of the door and jump in and out to avoid the blue crystals. If you platform along this hidden path long enough, you’ll find your final shell.
