UPDATE: Jez Corden of Windows Central has backed up NateTheHate’s claims. Speaking in his Patreon newsletter, Jez says there’s “strong rumour that Xbox will be announcing game(s) at Gamescom too.”
He adds that, “if what I’ve heard is true, there might be a pretty big surprise (probably very unexpected sequel) reveal.”
Meanwhile, NateTheHate has posted a few more details on ResetEra, stating that it’s an IP Xbox owns, but the developers are not one of Microsoft’s.
He also claims it could release this year, but that it isn’t Banjo. So that sucks.

Original Story: GamesCom will kick off on August 26 and run through to August 30, and apparently Xbox is set to announce a new game during the event.
Or so says NateTheHate, who you’ll probably be aware of as an insider and knower of things he isn’t supposed to know. According to NateTheHate, “I’ve heard of a neat Xbox announcement that should be at Gamescom.”
When asked if it would be the rumoured disc-to-digital system, NateTheHate said, “No. A game announcement.”
He also mentioned that it’s something “that has my interest & curiosity piqued.”
Obviously, this should be taken with plenty of salt and a serving of doubt on the side, but it’s still fun to speculate. And a game being announced at GamesCom is hardly unusual.
Nate’s wording would seem to indicate that it’s a new game being revealed, but it could also be an announcement about a game. Maybe Xbox is making something else exclusive?
Other possibilities, off the top of my head: Wolfenstein 3, Fallout 3 Remastered…..Viva Pinata?
