While the Call of Duty series is still one of the biggest franchises in all of gaming, it’s hard to deny that the popularity and sentiment of the brand have waned a fair bit in the last few years.
It seems Activision might be feeling threatened by other military shooters, as it’s doing something it hasn’t done before, and that’s giving out gifts to gamers just for playing Black Ops 6.
This move seems to be a push by Activision to entice people to log in to Season 5 Reloaded, which kicks off this week.
Black Ops 6 Season Reloaded Engagement Boosted By Activision
As part of today’s Black Ops 6 Season 5 Reloaded info blowout, Activision announced that as a “Thank You” for downloading the Season 5 Reloaded update, the publisher is gifting players a pack of 2XP tokens across all platforms.
Players who complete the download and log into Call of Duty from 10 am PT on September 4 until October 1 will receive:
- Five 1-Hour Double Player XP Tokens (5 hours total)
- Five 1-Hour Double Weapon XP Tokens (5 hours total)
- Five 1-Hour Double Battle Pass XP Tokens (5 hours total)
In addition to that, Activision is also gifting free Battle Pass Tier Skips as well as a “celebration of the Black Ops 7 reveal.” Players who log in to Black Ops 6 and Warzone from today until September 16 will get the free tier skips.
I’ve been playing Call of Duty since forever, and I don’t remember Activision giving out free stuff in celebration of a new reveal or even for downloading an update. But free is free, I guess.
Given that the Season 5 Reload will reduce the Call of Duty HQ app’s file size significantly, even if there weren’t any freebies, I assume a lot of players will jump at the chance, given that the COD HQ app eats up a ton of disk space.
Does this mean Black Ops 7 isn’t doing as well as Activision was expecting? If Battlefield 6 is threatening to steal some of its thunder, that’s a good thing, since we want proper competition for the franchise, so they’ll try harder.
Speaking of Black Ops 7, the carry-forward program originally planned for the game has been canceled, and this means we should be free of silly operator skins — at least until Season 1 launches.
Black Ops 6 Season 5 Reloaded starts on September 4, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be released on November 14, 2025, on consoles and PC.
