Ubisoft Quebec’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest Assassin’s Creed game, is nearing its one-year anniversary and with it, the developer may have some exciting plans to celebrate the milestone next month, especially for relatively new Nintendo Switch 2 players.
According to Ubisoft’s latest investors call, Shadows‘ first and currently only major expansion, Claws of Awaji, will be making its long-awaited debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 in March, but no exact release date was revealed, though having it launch on Friday, March 20th, would make sense as that’s the game’s exact one-year anniversary.
Everything Fans Can Expect To See From Assassin’s Creed in 2026
Fans of the long-running Assassin’s Creed series can expect a ton of new content to debut in 2026 from games to books.
During Shadows‘ Fall Roadmap Update in October, Quebec first announced that Shadows would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in December but noted that Claws of Awaji would come to the mobile console later in the new year.
Now, Switch 2 players will only have to wait about a month to finally witness Naoe and Yasuke’s final adventure in the treacherous Templar-filled island of Awaji.
Claws of Awaji Explained
Similar to many previous AC DLCs, Claws of Awaji takes place after Shadows‘ base game ending, following up on former Assassin Hattori Hanzo’s search for Naoe’s mother and Assassin Mentor Fujibayashi Tsuyu.
Naoe follows the trail to the nearby island of Awaji off the coast of Izumi Settsu to find its people ruled by the oppressive Templar-aligned Sanzoku Ippa led by Kimura Yukari, daughter of Templar daimyo Kimura Kei.
With Hanzo and Yasuke’s help, Naoe will strive to free Awaji from its Templar oppressors, defeat Yukari’s lieutenants, Yasuhira, Nowaki, and Imagawa Tomeji, and find Tsuyu.

Aside from completing Awaji’s main story, there are a lot of new side missions and activities to complete in the DLC, such as acquiring and mastering Naoe’s new weapon, the bo staff, and finding every location to paint the landscape Sumi-e.
Ubisoft Quebec hasn’t officially announced the release of Claws of Awaji on Nintendo Switch 2 yet, though they’ll likely announce it soon during a suspected Year 2 Roadmap Update similar to what the developer presented in early 2025 after Shadows‘ initial launch.
