Time for some good news! Remedy’s latest game has managed to find some solid success in a wildly busy month, selling over a million copies in 3 weeks.
Control Resonant dropped on September 24 to strong reviews, a peak concurrent player count just shy of 43,000 on Steam and good player reviews. Remedy has confirmed that all of that led to a million copies being sold in its first 3 weeks.
That also makes it their fastest selling game ever, overtaking Alan Wake 2 to claim the title. It took Alan Wake 2 an entire two months to hit that sales milestone, so Resonant has done it significantly faster. Remedy didn’t disclose sales by platform, but looking at the Steam player numbers I think it’s fair to say launching on Steam versus Alan Wake 2 only being available on PC via the Epic Store has helped quite a bit.
Comparing to the original Control is a bit trickier. We only got official sales data once Control hit 2 million copies 15 months after launching, but it does mean Resonant has already achieved half of that in a fraction of the time. However, we can do a bit of quick math to get a better idea; Remedy said Alan Wake 2’s one million sales in two months were over 50% higher than Control managed in four months, implying the original Control sold fewer than roughly 667,000 copies over that period. But that is just a guesstimation based on Remedy’s wording.
Remedy listed Control Resonant’s initial development budget as €50 million in its 2024 annual report. Asked in May 2026 whether that figure still held, CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon stopped short of confirming it, but praised the team for staying on track and building the game on a relatively small budget, suggesting it remained broadly in that territory. Annapurna agreed to finance 50% of development, which complicates the picture because it also has a share of the game’s revenue.
That €50 million did not include marketing – just the game development itself.
For some very rough napkin maths, a million copies sold at the standard €59.99 asking price would generate €59.99 million in gross sales. That sounds comfortably above the announced development budget, but it isn’t €60 million landing in Remedy’s pocket. Taxes, storefront fees and marketing costs still need accounting for, alongside Annapurna’s financing and revenue-sharing agreement. It’s a strong start, then, but it also means the game probably hasn’t recouped its costs just yet. Which is familiar territory for Remedy, since it took Alan Wake 2 nearly 16 months to become profitable.
