Deltarune Chapter 5 has been given a new release window by Toby Fox, one that’s less than reassuring, being further out than some fans expected.
There have been massive gaps between the releases of Deltarune Chapters, with the first launching in 2018, the second in 2021, and the third and fourth in 2025. Upon completion of Deltarune Chapter 4, the game informs the player that Chapter 5 is launching in 2026, the shortest gap to date.
That is, assuming Chapter 5 isn’t delayed. Deltarune creator Toby Fox put up a post on the Fangamer website, discussing the upcoming 10th anniversary of Undertale. Fox gave an update on Chapter 5’s progress, and it’s not a happy one.
Deltarune Chapter 5 Is Launching In The Second Half Of 2026
According to Fox, Deltarune Chapter 5 won’t launch in the first half of 2026. Those expecting a January 1 release date had better temper their expectations.
Fox has stated that the early parts of Chapter 5 are complete, but the rest of it still needs work, with 40% in a first pass state and 10% in a prototype state. Additionally, most of the cutscenes aren’t complete.
There is more positive news regarding monsters, as most enemies are done, and some work has even begun on Chapter 6. Once translation and testing are considered, Fox has ruled out an early 2026 release due to how much work needs to be done.
So, here’s the big question: Will Deltarune Chapter 5 release in 2026 at all? Ending Chapter 4 with confirmation of a release window was a ballsy move, especially for a small development team, but Fox still seems confident that it will launch on schedule. That being said, delays are always lingering in the background, and this new update means Chapter 5 could well need more work before it’s ready.
