While Fortnite has been around for what seems like forever, there is one feature the battle royale hit still doesn’t have, and it’s proximity chat.
If a recent datamine proves to be legitimate, that could change very soon, as Epic Games seeks to introduce the feature before the end of the week.
This means that we should be getting a game update this week to roll this feature in/
Fortnite Proximity Chat Will Be An Actual Feature Soon
The news of Fortnite getting proximity chat comes from dataminer Spush, which was validated by one of Fortnite’s biggest leakers in HYPEX.
Proximity chat will be introduced to Fortnite on Sept. 19, which we’re assuming will be from a title update. Alongside that, players can expect the feature to be available in Zero Build mode, where players can join/leave Squads mid-match. Players must set their voice chat to “Everyone” in order to queue to this new mode where proximity chat will be enabled.
For those unfamiliar with proximity chat, it’s a feature mostly used in multiplayer games, wherein the player can talk to other players within their proximity. In some cases, this even works with players from the opposing side.
While HYPEX is a solid dataminer and Fortnite leaker, this is still unofficial info, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
So far, Epic Games has not said anything about the feature or an update out on Friday, September 19. That said, given Epic Games announces major updates and its corresponding maintenance a day before it happens, we still have two days left for the developers to announce that a new patch is on the way.
In other Fortnite news, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead gave their seal of approval to Fortnite’s new bug infestation.
For Fortnite players, will you use proximity chat or is this something not that interesting given a lot of players are a bit on the young side?
