As you progress through Hollow Knight: Silksong, you’ll acquire a steady stream of powers and movement abilities along the way. The dash ability early on is a godsend, and before long, you’ll also acquire the drifter’s cloak, which allows you to soar like a candy wrapper in an updraft.
However, as soon as you complete the Flexible Spines quest and make your way out of the quest area, you’ll be confronted with your most gargantuan boss encounter yet. A big brute named Fourth Chorus.
This boss looks pretty intimidating, and quite frankly, they are if you don’t make use of your new power. But if you do glide with style, you should be able to make mincemeat of him, which we will show you how to do right now.
Where Is Fourth Chorus & How to Trigger Them
As mentioned, Fourth Chorus is a boss that cannot be triggered until you access the Drifter’s Cloak, which is accessed in the deepest recesses of the Far Fields. You actually have to cross the boss area to get to the Seamstress’s area.
However, before you can trigger this fight, you need to complete the Flexible Spines quest. I could go into great detail about how you do that, but the short of it is that you need to go to the area right of her little lair and then attack the spikes spat out by the nearby enemies.
If you want more detail than that, which would be completely justified, then be sure to check out this full guide.
After you complete this quest, head back to the left and, upon crossing the molten platforms, you’ll come to an open area where Fourth Chorus will rise from the magma, and the fight begins.
How To Beat Fourth Chorus
First Phase
Fourth Chorus is essentially a gimmick boss that forces the player to learn how to use their glide ability. So think of it like a very aggressive tutorial. So if there is one tip I would give you up front, it’s to glide often to avoid their attacks.
They have two moves to watch out for early on of varying degrees of danger. First, they have their slam attack which will not only smash you, but also take away a portion of the platform, revealing lava below.
I would suggest purchasing the Magma Bell from the Forgemaster’s Daughter, as this reduces all damage taken from Flame and Magma.
This is easily avoided, but it will mean you’ll need to make use of the very limited space you have. Which means gliding around can be a lifesaver.
Then, secondly, you have their sweeping arm attack, which hits for two masks and effectively forces you to time your jump and then hover in the air while the hand passes across the screen. You’ll know when this is being telegraphed as they will have an open palm primed at either side of the screen.
Then, just in case it isn’t obvious, you need to attack their head to deal damage, which will mean jumping and attacking quickly or gliding to hold yourself in place is the best course of action.
Keep whacking his head and he will eventually drop to the floor, signalling the end of the first phase.
Second & Third Phase
The second phase isn’t all that different to the first, as they will still smash the platform and sweep attack. But now, they will also periodically smash the roof to cause molten fireballs to drop from the sky. These are pretty densely packed so try to stay offensive and get hits in, but don’t hesitate to back off and avoid them if things get to cramped.
After a while, they will go down. This will signal the beginning of the third phase, which is literally just more of the same, so just keep ringing his bell until he goes down again.
Final Phase
This begins the final phase of the fight, which is essentially a bit of a gimmick for a grand finale. The boss will make the platform very narrow, and your goal during this last phase is to use the two updrafts on either side of the area to get airborne.
Once up there, you’ll see two explosive assets on the ceiling, and you’ll want to hit one followed by the other as quick as you can while avoiding their usual attacks.
Do this, and a big ol’ boulder will drop on their head, ending the fight. Congrats.
Rewards For Defeating Fourth Chorus
Sadly, there are no rewards for defeating Fourth Chorus other than being able to walk away with your newfound Drifter’s Cloak and continue progressing through the game. Not exactly the most lucrative fight, but at least now you’re a gliding expert.
