Navy Sailor Earns $9K/Month Doing Laundry at Home

Monalisa Escobedo is an active-duty Navy sailor in Chula Vista, California, with a laundry side hustle 🧺

She picks up strangers’ dirty laundry through an app called Poplin, washes and folds it on two machines at home, and drops it back the next day.

She explains the money…

I average from five to 12 orders a day. Because I’m in California, I’m allowed to set my own prices. The company charges about $1.53 per pound; I get $1.16 per pound. My income ranges from $8,000 to $11,000 a month.

Poplin’s standard rate for pros starts at $0.75 a pound, so setting her own price makes a big difference 👀

She barely made any money in her first month…

Initially, you can only take one order, and new people get all the orders people probably don’t want. So I had to take faraway ones, which meant spending more on gas.

Now she has regulars on set days, and only takes new customers near where she’s already driving.

She’s tried Uber too, but this keeps her at home with her kid.

Sign up as a Poplin Laundry Pro, take every order you can early on to move up the ranks, then build regulars along a tight route.
