Protoype Remaster Might Be Announced Soon, According To Steam Data

Remember Prototype? Released in 2009 by Radical Entertainment under Activision, the open-world superhero action game is now considered a cult-classic.

While we saw a sequel that probably wasn’t as loved as the first game, but it’s still something that’s remembered fondly.

While Activision has kept the franchise dormant for over a decade, could we be seeing a remaster soon?

Prototype Steam Update Hints At Remaster Release

The Steam version of Prototype has been updated with credits referencing a Ubisoft Connect version, and crediting Iron Galaxy Studios (via PCGamer), a development team that’s no stranger to remastering old titles for Activision, as the studio has done just that with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, which was released this year.

Given Activision nor Microsoft has announced anything, we’re left to assume things right now. Same as with anything unconfirmed, treat this with a grain of salt. That said, the fact that Ubisoft Connect and Iron Galaxy have been added in the game’s PC files is a bit telling, so perhaps an announcement is on the way soon.

Bear in mind, this isn’t the first time Prototype is being re-released if this report pans out. Back in 2015, the Prototype: Biohazard Bundle was released on the PS4 and Xbox One.

While we don’t have a review of Prototype, we do have one of its sequel, Prototype 2. Back in 2012, we gave it an 8.5/10 and said, “Overall, Prototype 2 is a solid game. The story is very straight-forward, but there is enough blood and gore to keep someone entertained for the long run. The combat is what will keep you engaged, finding challenages in completing the side-missions, clearing out lairs, and fighting groups of monsters that want to eat you for breakfast.”

As someone who has played both games when they were released, I prefer the first Prototype game. Hopefully, if we get a remaster, Iron Galaxy will adapt modern game controls and features to make the experience fresh.
