Brawler fans have already been eating good this year with the likes of Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion and Scott Pilgrim EX, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised at our luck runnning out. Yes, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction (good grief, that’s a long name) has been delayed just two weeks before it was supposed to launch.
Publisher Limited Run Games made the announcement on X, saying that, “To ensure that this release will excite and challenge fans across all generations, additional time for development is needed.”
So, when’s the new release date? Well, we didn’t get one. Instead we’ve been given a nebulous release window of “this summer” on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC.
“Thank you for your continued patience as we take additional time to refine the game and deliver an experience worthy of fans,” said Limited Run Games. “We look forward to welcoming players into Eternia as they join He-Man in defending the planet from Skeletor.”
I get the distinct feeling Limited Run Games is telling the truth, just not all of it. You see, there’s a brand new live-action He-Man movie titled Masters of the Universe that’s set to release in June, so this delay likely serves two purposes: it lets them polish the game ever more, and let’s them get some extra marketing hype from launching closer to the movie. That’s smart, although it really should not have taken them until just two weeks before launch to make the decision, so maybe it really is because the game isn’t ready?
Regardless, the game looks amazing and I can’t wait to play it.
