As part of a sale on Fanatical.com, you can currently pick up Doom 64 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein for $1.77. It’s important to note that the codes for this price are only redeemable on Steam. The games normally cost $4.99, resulting in a 65% savings.

Sure, they’re already cheap, but hey, this is essentially picking up two games for the price of one! The sale runs through April 26th.

Given the recent emergence of boomer shooters as of late, with Mouse: P.I. For Hire being a recent example, this is as good a time as any to revisit the shooters of old for little to no cost. There was plenty of buzz for the genre at PAX East this year, too, especially around the upcoming Brazilian Drug Lord 4. For what it’s worth, you can pick up Brazilian Drug Lord 3 on Steam. Both games are quite excellent.

Doom 64 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein Are Both Excellent Boomer Shooters

Released in 1997, Doom 64 is a former Nintendo 64 exclusive that finally made its way onto other platforms in 2020. Despite the limitations of the N64 hardware, particularly its awkward controller compared to the traditional mouse-and-keyboard setup, critics regarded it as the best-looking Doom title to date.

Over time, Doom 64 has developed a cult following despite concerns that the game feels a little too similar to the original Doom at times. If there’s one thing that the Doom reboot trilogy, which began in 2016, taught us, it’s that there’s nothing wrong with staying true to what made you great in the first place.

With the looming approach of DOOM: Dark Ages, we’re excited to rank every game that came before it.

That’s a philosophy that helped make Return to Castle Wolfenstein so successful. Released for the PC in 2001, the game’s old-school gameplay, combined with an addictive multiplayer component, helped make it one of the year’s better shooters.

Unfortunately, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was overshadowed by Halo: Combat Evolved, and the Wolfenstein franchise, despite the popular free-to-play multiplayer expansion Enemy Territory, fell out of style until its 2014 reboot.
