With just over a month until 007 First Light launches, IO Interactive has dropped a new “Rules of Spycraft” trailer that gives us a better look at what the game is going to be, and I’m kind of impressed.
As a huge Hitman fan, I was surprised by how much this new James Bond adventure looks like Agent 47’s outings. The visuals, UI design and animations indicate that Hitman‘s DNA is going to play a big part in the experience.
From a gameplay perspective, the trailer shows off a lot of social stealth – blending in with crowds, using disguises to get into secure areas and a new bluffing system that can let Bond talk his way through situations.
From there, we venture into stealthy takedowns, gunplay and more cinematic moments. These are the things I’m most interested in, because as amazing as the Hitman games are, they aren’t known for strong action and set pieces. A James Bond game needs both. What we see in the trailer looks solid, but I’ll reserve judgement until I get my hands on it.
We also get a look at MI6 where you can hang out, catch up with colleagues and play around with lots of fun gadgets.
“In 007 First Light, James Bond will have access to the Q‑Lens (highlights useful information and hackable devices), the Q‑Watch (activates gadgets and interactions to divert attention or neutralize threats), the Laser Strap (can daze enemies, open up new paths, or create distractions using the environment), the Dart Phone (quietly moves enemies out of the way), the Smoke Pod (blocks visibility at short range), the Flash Mine (produces a burst of light to momentarily stun opponents) and more,” says the official press release.
And finally, we see the new Tactical Simulation mode, which IO describes thus: “TacSim offers multiple missions that unlock as you progress through the story and challenges you to continuously improve your performance as an agent. Each mission is scored via the Agent Score and supports global and friends’ leaderboards. Completing TacSim missions earns XP and Intel: XP increases your Clearance Level to unlock new sets of skins for the weapons and gadgets, as well as cosmetics, while Intel will enable players to acquire these new skins and cosmetics.”
007 First Light launches May 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
