CD Projekt Red has finally given us a glimpse into Songs of the Past, a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3, and it’s shaping up nicely.
The expansion will drop us into the “idyllic” land of Letten, described as “being rich in rural traditiion and folklore.” Sounds like a good hunting ground for a Witcher, eh?
It’s a real treat to hear the iconic voice of Doug Cockel after so long. His first words in this debut trailer are, “Didn’t say I was afraid.” Yup, Geralt is still fucking awesome.
There’s a couple of fun elements in the trailer. For example, Geralt is wearing Ciri’s steel sword scabbard that we see in The Witcher 4.
We also see Geralt using the same chain he battled the Striga with in the very first game’s opening cinematic. It looks like CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory finally decided to bring it back and make it a part of combat. Geralt uses it to yank an enemy closer to him before unloading with his trusty sword.
Songs of the Past will drop sometime in 2027. Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red also announced The Witcher 3: Remastered is launching at the end of September as a completely free upgrade to anyone who already owns the game.
All of this is leading up to the launch of The Witcher 4 in 2028.
